Naruto Filler Guide

Guide by iMaji

Thinking about starting Naruto or rewatching it without sitting through hundreds of filler episodes? I've put together a guide to help you get through the main story without missing the important stuff. 720 episodes total Between the original Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, a pretty significant chunk of the episodes are anime-original content, so knowing what to skip can save you a lot of time. Original Naruto Filler episodes to skip Episode 26 Episode 97 Episodes 101–106 Episodes 136–219 My recommended watch order Watch episodes 1–25 Skip 26 Watch 27–96 Skip 97 Watch 98–100 Skip 101–106 Watch 107–135 Skip 136–219 Watch episode 220 Filler worth watching: Episode 101 A fan favorite. Team 7 tries to uncover what's underneath Kakashi's mask, and it's easily one of the funniest standalone episodes in the original series. Naruto Shippuden Shippuden has a lot more filler, especially during the Fourth Shinobi World War. Here's the main list of episodes to skip if you're prioritizing the manga storyline. Filler episodes and arcs to skip 57–71 91–112 144–151 170–171 176–196 223–242 257–260 271 279–281 284–295 303–320 347–361 376–377 388–390 394–413 416–417 422–423 427–450 464–468 480–483 Mixed episodes Some episodes contain a mix of canon and anime-original content, so different filler guides may classify a few episodes differently. Filler Arcs Actually Worth Watching Not every filler arc is bad. A few are worth checking out, even if you're trying to get through the series quickly. 1. Kakashi's ANBU Arc (Episodes 347–361) More backstory for Kakashi, the ANBU Black Ops, and characters connected to the Hidden Leaf's darker history. One of the better additions to the anime. 2. Six-Tails Unleashed (Episodes 144–151) A side story about Utakata, a jinchūriki, and his student Hotaru. Worth watching if you enjoy the tailed beasts and their stories. 3. Itachi's Story (Episodes 451–458) Not straightforward manga canon, but it adds context to Itachi's youth, his relationship with Shisui, and the Uchiha clan tragedy. 4. Ashura and Indra (Episodes 464–468) Interesting background on the origins of the shinobi world, although it's skippable if you're only interested in the main plot. What About The Last: Naruto the Movie? Where it fits If you're following the main story, watch The Last: Naruto the Movie after Shippuden episode 493 and before episodes 494–500. It provides important context for the ending and Naruto's relationships.
