Forgotten Island proves that DreamWorks never misses
Review by iMaji
Just finished watching the movie and it just instilled how much I love DreamWorks, especially in this decade. Forgotten Island is a movie about two girls and their friendship being tested as they get transported to an island threatening to take their memories away. The theme itself is really solid, and it only gets strengthened with the side characters and villains you meet along the way. Thematically, it’s displayed so well, and does an awesome job being shown in the environments. I loved especially the usage of the friendship bracelet and other cherished objects that are treated sort of like memory capsules, it’s such a great, grounded parallel to keep to irl stuff in a fantastical island. The animation is ofc top notch as well. The mixture between 3D CGI and the 2D played on top is done so well it reminds me of those elementary school picture books. The changes in animation to display certain characters world views were also super interesting and fun. I especially also love the character design in this movie, as almost every character was super fun in their own way and spoke a lot about their character. Things like Raissa’s hair or Jo’s shoes especially not only spoke to their character but also how it changes throughout the film. All in all, I came out of this theatre feeling great about the movie. It had some pacing issues in my opinion, and I’d love to have seen a little bit more, but the entire plot and moral of the movie was really well done. 8.5 from me
